Crust up to end product
The function of the finish is to modify the colour of the leather and to provide
a protective surface, which at the same time, has an attractive and pleasing feel. Aniline leathers rely for their colour on the dyed leather substrate but a clear casein or resin top coat of finish improves their resistance to water and waterborne stains, with only a minimal effect on the feel of the leather.
On other types of leathers, intended for use on other types of furniture, fully pigmented finishes provide good coverage of minor grain imperfections and excellent stain and water resistance. Because of its’ increased color uniformity through out the hide, fully pigmented leather also provides ease for the furniture manufacturer in matching cut panels. Finishes are also applied to the leathers to impart special qualities or to create special fashion effects.
Some other attributes of finishing are:
To equalize the aniline drum dyeing and provide a more uniform color.
To adjust the colour, so that the final product exactly matches the
customers specification.
To impart additional protection to the leather while making routine
maintenance easier.
Improving light fastness and rub resistance.
Overall enhancement of product and performance.
The leather is checked for the third and last time. To insure that every batch we produce maintains Hulshof’s high standard of quality, samples are subjected to a battery of chemical and physical tests. Once we are satisfied that this lot is truly representative of our company, our people, and our
standards of excellence.
The leather is measured, carefully packaged and shipped, world-wide to what we know will be a “Satisified Customer”.
