As the first tannery in the world, Hulshof has managed to develop a fully green product, a basic concept for biodegradable leather.
Through the replacement of chemicals with biodegradable products, and through the application of formulas, they are able to produce organic leather suitable for many purposes – a leather that is biodegradable during the waste phase and therefore does its part toward the environment by serving as a raw material once again or once more.
Consequently this goes further than ‘from cradle to grave’, with the description ‘from cradle to cradle’ (C2C) being more appropriate. To demonstrate the pure nature of the product, the chosen name is PURO.
Under composting situations, PURO is turned into compost within a foreseeable period of time. Recent tests have shown that Hulshof’s organic leather meets these standards.
